Council adopts Baxter Township Structure Plan

Baxter Township

At its Planning Services Committee Meeting on Monday 1 April 2019, Mornington Peninsula Shire Council adopted the Baxter Township Structure Plan 2019.

The Plan seeks to protect the distinctive, positive elements of Baxter and identifies transport and urban design improvements to enhance useability and integration.

It will guide land use, urban design and transport decisions that support the successful growth and enhancement of Baxter township over the next 15 – 20 years.

Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor David Gill said “we are pleased to have had such strong community and stakeholder involvement during the preparation of this exciting new Plan”.

The Shire has already completed structure plans for Mornington, Rosebud and Hastings. These Structure Plans are part of the Shire’s endeavour to plan appropriately for the future of these townships in a way that is sustainable and protects our green wedge areas.

Watson Ward Councillor Julie Morris said, “the structure plan for Baxter will help capture and enhance the attributes that are most loved while protecting Baxter’s vital green wedge areas. Working with current state planning scheme zone provisions, the Plan also seeks to ensure that appropriate low rise development outcomes of 1-2 storeys and additional housing opportunities in residential areas is achieved”.
