With Queenslanders allowed to hit the roads and go on holiday, Council will open its campgrounds tomorrow (Friday 5 June).
The campgrounds will operate under strict health regulations, which will include the capping of numbers to ensure social distancing rules can be followed.
The three Council campsites – Rotary Park Babinda, Babinda Boulders and Greenpatch in Gordonvale – will operate on a “first in best served basis” (no bookings) with the following limits:
- Rotary Park Babinda: 60 sites
- Babinda Boulders: 10 sites
- Greenpatch: 40 sites
Council will patrol the sites to ensure caps are not breached, while toilets and amenities will be cleaned more frequently.
Cairns Mayor Bob Manning welcomed the reopening of the venues, which would help attract visitors to the region, particularly drive tourists and grey nomads.
“Opening these campsites is a small step in attracting much needed visitors back to our region, especially ahead of the school holidays,” Cr Manning said.
“Of course, there are some restrictions in place, but these conditions should not detract from the experience.”
Visitors are reminded that there is a 72-hour limit in place, which allows more people to use the venues.
