Council confirms resignation of General Manager

It is with sadness that we announce that long-serving Orange Council General Manager, Mr Garry Styles has tendered his resignation and Council has resolved to accept his resignation.

Orange City Council, on behalf of its community and staff, thanks Mr Styles for his 14 years of service.

In a statement Orange Mayor Cr Reg Kidd said :

“It is with regret that I announce on behalf of Orange City Council that Mr Garry Styles, has elected to resign as General Manager and Council has resolved to accept that resignation,” Cr Reg Kidd said.

“We have been extremely fortunate here at Orange City Council to have operated under Mr Styles’ guiding hand for over 14 years.

“Mr Styles has made invaluable contributions to the Council, the Orange community and local government in general for which we are all grateful. On behalf of all of Orange City Council I ask you to join me in thanking Mr Styles and wish him all the best on his next endeavours.”

RESIGNATION : The resignation of general manager Garry Styles takes effect from Friday 10 May.

The statement from Orange City Council continues:

During this time Mr Styles has presided over many generational projects, much growth and change in the Orange district, as well as the vast everyday services that Council provides to its community.

This has included project development, sourcing significant funds and delivering infrastructure and facilities including:

  • major water supply infrastructure such as stormwater harvesting and the Macquarie pipeline during the previous drought which now positions Orange well
  • key facilities such as the Aquatic Centre, Anzac Park Sports Centre, the Museum
  • numerous major roads such as the Northern and Southern Roads and regional Orange roads

Mr Styles said he wanted to thank his colleagues at Council for their support over the course of his tenure.

“I wish to particularly thank the Council staff for their dedicated service over the last 14 years,” he said.

“We achieved much together for our community.

“I also wish to thank the Council and the Councillors for the opportunity that has been afforded me over our years, together to pursue a big program of services, facilities and infrastructure and wish the organisation well going forward.”

Mr Styles has played a strong role in key economic development outcomes supporting jobs, growth and opportunities. Orange has grown and developed into what it is today because of many of these opportunities. Orange is a very desirable location to live, work and visit with a very positive future.

As a result of his leadership Orange City Council has a strong reputation, strong structure and a sound financial position upon which, it will deliver for its community.

The record of delivery of Mr Styles will stand well into the future.

Council again wishes Garry and his family all the best, understanding he intends to take a well-deserved break before moving on to new opportunities.
