Council endorses fees and charges schedule

As part of Council’s annual budget process, the fees and charges schedule has been reviewed.

While Council’s main revenue source is from rates and utility charges, fees and charges revenue is still significant at approximately $26 million or 7% of total operating revenue.

Council today endorsed a general increase of 5% to the fees and charges for the 2021/22 financial year, with some exceptions:

  • Due to the review and adoption of Planning and Development fees and charges in September 2021, no change to these fees and charges is proposed at this time
  • Off-street parking fees will increase by $1 a day at the Bunda Street carpark (to $3 a day), and Hartley Street and CPAC carparks (to $4 a day)
  • New wastewater reticulation charges have been introduced for:
    • Clearing sewer blockage on a customer property ($910 first time and $1,510 for previously resolved blockages),
    • Relocate house connection branch (price on application), and
    • Rising or lowering of sewer manholes (price on application).
  • Introduction of a solar panel disposal fee at transfer stations of $10 per panel.

In 2015, Council adopted the practice of increasing fees and charges on a biennial basis.

Due to the unknown impacts of COVID-19, the decision was made to delay the 2020/21 increase until 2021/22. Increasing fees and charges in 2022/23 brings Council back in line with the practice established in 2015.
