Council hosts free Community Grants Expo in Western Downs

Western Downs community groups are being encouraged to take advantage of a free grants expo next month to boost opportunities in gaining important access to financial assistance programs.

Western Downs Regional Council is hosting a Grants Expo on Tuesday 14 June from 1:00pm till 7:00pm at the Chinchilla RSL, where groups can take part in two writing workshops as well as learn about the various grants’ programs on offer.

Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said the expo was a fantastic opportunity for our community groups to build their skills and identify appropriate opportunities to increase their services to the community.

“Council takes pride in empowering our communities to develop local initiatives and events, and by providing this expo we can ensure that community groups are better informed on what grants are available and how they can apply,” Cr Maguire said.

“Our communities are made up of fantastic groups that consist of many wonderful people that make our region the active and vibrant region we see around us.

“In the past our grants team have done a great job in providing these groups with grant writing workshops but by doing things differently this year and expanding the program, they hope to also provide our funding partners with the chance to promote their grants programs.

“We are extremely lucky to have Community grant writing expert, Kate Bradley, join us at the expo as well as Shell QGC, Origin and Gambling Community Benefit Fund, just to name a few.

“Kate is based across the region’s community centres, helping to research, identify and access funding opportunities. She also works with community groups to build their grants-writing capacities, so they can secure additional investment.

“Attendees who choose to participate in the workshops will also walk away with the knowledge in building a strong application and as well as planning your grants journey, which will assist them with their future grants applications.

“Our fantastic community groups consist of many wonderful people and this expo is all about providing them with the resources and confidence to better understand the grant process so they can continue contributing to our active and vibrant region.”

No registrations will be required to attend the expo.
