ATEC Meeting Place Shines International Spotlight

Tasmanian Government

Tasmania is hosting the Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) Meeting Place for the first time.

Meeting Place is one of Australia’s flagship business-to-business tourism trade events and is being delivered by Tourism Tasmania and ATEC.

Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events, Roger Jaensch, welcomed the almost 600 delegates to Tasmania today.

“Hobart is a must visit conference destination for thousands of visitors every single year,” Minister Jaensch said.

“The very best of what Tasmania does is on full display at Meeting Place.

“Events like these are a valuable opportunity to showcase Tasmania’s visitor experiences to global buyers, building awareness of Tasmania as a world-class destination and inspiring international travellers to visit our island.

“There are 131 international focused travel buyers representing Tasmania’s key markets from the United States, United Kingdom, Greater China, Singapore, New Zealand and India.

“This Meeting Place is also fielding its largest ever group of seller delegates, with 41 from Tasmania, and 21 of them for the first time.”

Almost 275,000 international visitors enjoyed more than five million nights in Tasmania and spent $758.6 million in the year to March.

“As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future we are sustainably growing our tourism industry, supporting our economy and jobs across the State,” Minister Jaensch said.

“Meeting Place brings valuable exposure to Tasmania’s international ready tourism operators, by bringing influential international travel buyers right here to Hobart.

“The success of events like Meeting Place also showcases the value of the Macquarie Point Stadium and the new Launceston Convention Centre.

“Events like this help deliver the goals of the 2030 Tasmanian Visitor Economy Strategy, including growing international visitors to 20 per cent of our visitation, from the current 13 per cent of total visitation.”
