Central Goldfields Shire Council is supporting cyclist safety and encouraging residents to jump on their bike with new bicycle lanes along Kars Street, Maryborough.

The new lanes stretch from High Street to Goldsmith Street.

The new additions will increase cyclist safety, particularly for local students, while also encouraging residents to remain active.

Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Chris Meddows-Taylor said it is great to see more options being provided for local cyclists.

“Cycling can pose serious dangers when sharing the road with other users. The new bike lanes will do a fantastic job to keep our cyclists safe, especially for students who ride their bike to and from school every day,” he said.

“It will also be great to see other community members take advantage of the bike lanes to stay fit and active.”

The new bike lanes were recommendations from the 2017-2026 Central Goldfields Shire Walking and Cycling Strategy and the Central Goldfields Shire Integrated Transport Strategy – adopted in September this year.
