Council recruits more staff ahead of busy event season

Townsville City Council has invited university students, retirees, young people or anyone wanting casual work to apply for a role with Council’s support team.

Council has several positions needing to be filled ahead of a busy events period for the region.

Mayor Jenny Hill said the team was responsible for making locations ready to host events, festivals and regular sporting activities.

“Council delivers more than 60 community events each year, and the support team are important in helping to set them up,” Cr Hill said.

“We are the events capital of Northern Australia and the venue support team may be called on to help with some of the upcoming events like Carols by Candlelight, Christmas in the City, Talisman Sabre Community Day, Seniors Awards and Get Ready Townsville.

“They also work every day of the week helping our sporting and community groups deliver activities in our stadiums and open spaces.

“We’ve put the call out to anyone looking for some part time work, a second job or wanting to get their foot in the door for a job at Council.

“Council is an award-winning employer, and over the weekend was named Large Employer of the Year for the North Queensland Region for the second consecutive year at the Queensland Training Awards.

“Several of our fulltime team members started their careers by working part time as a venue support officer, and I encourage anyone looking for an opportunity with Council to apply.”

Applications are open now and close on Sunday, 6 August.
