An infrastructure boost is underway across the Kempsey Shire that sees upgrades, renewal and construction of facilities across the region.

Kempsey Shire Council is currently working on major projects throughout the shire that will improve the lifestyle and services for residents living in the Macleay Valley.

Council’s Infrastructure Delivery Manager, Dylan Reeves, said carrying out projects in the shire and bringing worthwhile and valuable infrastructure is a priority for Council.

“We are committed to providing high quality infrastructure to residents, which is why you’ll see Council working many projects throughout the shire.”

“Crews recently completed a safety upgrade to a section of Crescent Head Road, which is one of the shire’s busiest roads,” said Mr Reeves.

Safety improvement works are also occurring on Armidale Road as Council rehabilitates the road between Link Road and Australian Solar Timbers.

The shire’s bridges are a huge focus with Council working on improvements to these fixtures.

“We have $16 million of State Government funding to replace 56 timber bridges over the next few years, which will improve their durability and allow heavier loads to cross over.”

Kempsey Shire Council Water and Sewer Manager, Wes Trotter, emphasised the rigorous planning that goes into ensuring the shire’s water and sewer services are maintained.

“To prevent the early failure of services, we need to ensure these assets are regularly inspected for corrosion and refurbished if needed, which is exactly what we had to do at the Stuarts Point Reservoir recently.”

“Early detection of corrosion in this case has enabled us to get the upper hand on this impending issue and refurbish the reservoir to guarantee its service for years to come,” said Mr Trotter.

There are more water and sewer projects in the pipeline including construction of the Willawarrin Water Treatment Plant and South Kempsey Pressure Sewer Scheme as well as safeguarding the water supply to the Lower Macleay Water Treatment Plant.
