Guidance on the future planning and design for key project components to facilitate the implementation of the Caloundra Centre Master Plan will be considered by Sunshine Coast Council at its June Ordinary Meeting (Thursday, June 20).
Following extensive community consultation, the draft Caloundra Centre Master Plan, was endorsed by council in 2017.
The master plan seeks to capitalise on opportunities to redevelop the city centre, attract new businesses, increase residential and visitor accommodation and improve vehicle and pedestrian access.
It is the culmination of consultation involving council, the community, local businesses and tourism operators and capitalises on Caloundra’s natural beauty and wealth of cultural, community and sports facilities.
Key components to be considered by council will include:
- Endorsing an urban design concept to guide detailed planning and design of the Caloundra Centre “Community and Creative Hub”
- Locating a new library in the current Administration Building – subject to further feasibility and project brief outcomes
- The size and location of a new town square connecting Bulcock Street to Omrah Avenue, new library and The Events Centre
- A new and enhanced Caloundra Regional Gallery adjoining the town square
- Identifying a key development site at the existing Caloundra library location
The master plan has a strong focus on good quality urban design outcomes, cultural and creative arts, links to the water and initiatives to stimulate development of several sites for residential, commercial and tourism purposes.
