Orange City Council has released a timetable for the next stage of the Future City upgrade of Lords Place south.
The plan is about transforming the Lords Place South precinct into a ‘place for meeting’.
Over the next month:
- Eight raised dining areas will be installed in locations along the streey
- Thirteen new white way footpath lighting poles will be installed on the western side of the street
- Six new shade structures will be added
- Two new accessible ramps will be built next to disabled parking spaces
- A number of new open-space areas will be created by painting former parking zones
- Street furniture will be installed in locations along the street. The furniture incudes seats, bicycle racks and plantings.
The first two raised dining areas will go in on Monday near Crema and Golden Bowl.
UPGRADE: The focus of the Lords Place upgrade is set to move from underground infrastructure to raised dining decks in the coming weeks.
As well as the new features, Council crews will continue the roll-out of upgraded water and electricity infrastructure in the block. In the coming weeks, water crews will be connecting each business on the eastern side of the road to a newly installed water main, after completing connections on the western side.
Orange City Council’s Director of Technical Services Ian Greenham has welcomed the next stage of the project.
“We’re now on the home straight for this project and in the coming weeks people will be able to see the full impact of how attractive this new precinct is going to be,” Ian Greenham said.
“So far, the only real changes that people can see are the new trees, but in the next month we’ll be rolling-out the features that will transform this precinct into an attractive place where people will want to meet.
“Council understands the impact that the construction phase is having and appreciates the patience of business and shoppers.”
Council staff have begun working with the café and restaurant businesses near the new dining decks to help them to start to use the new spaces. Businesses are being offered the option for the dining decks of adding their own café furniture or making them available for general community use. This month’s Council meeting decided to make the dining decks available at no charge for the first 12 months.
The installation of thirteen pole-mounted footpath lights is being funded by a $250,000 grant from the NSW Government (Transport for NSW). The new lights, extend the popular white way lighting that currently runs along Summer Street.
