At the Ordinary Meeting of Council held Tuesday night, it was resolved that Councillors Christine Stead and Manjit Singh Lally be appointed as Council representatives on the Regional Planning Panel (RPP).
RRPs were introduced to NSW in 2009 to strengthen decision making on regionally significant development applications and other planning matters.
The RRP consists of three members appointed by the NSW Government and two members appointed by Council, with the new Councillors appointed following the December 2021 NSW Local Government Elections.
Regional Planning Panels operate in the following four regions of the State: Hunter and Central Coast, Southern, Northern, and Western which Griffith City Council is a member, and are responsible for a variety of tasks including:
- Determine ‘regionally significant’ development applications (DAs) and certain other DAs and modification applications
- Act as the Planning Proposal Authority (PPA) when directed CL01 Appointment of Regional Planning Panel Members
- Undertake rezoning reviews
- Provide advice on other planning and development matters when requested, and
- Determine site compatibility certificates under the State Environmental Planning Policy (Housing for Seniors or People with a Disability) 2004.
Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said the role was a vital on for the region, and is pleased Councillors Christine Stead and Manjit Singh Lally have been appointed.
“I would like to thank Councillor Stead and Mrs Rina Mercuri for their service on the RRP, having been appointed in July 2019 and congratulate Councillor Stead on her reappointment,” said Councillor Curran.
“Councillors Stead and Singh Lally have a big job ahead of them throughout this term and I am sure they will excel.”
Councillor Stead said she is pleased to have been able to extend her time on the Regional Planning Panel and is looking forward to working with the Panel throughout this term.
Councillor Singh Lally said he hopes to gain valuable insight and extend his knowledge base for the benefit of the Griffith community.
The RRP meets on an as needs basis.
