The Country Universities Centre Western Riverina (CUCWR) is one step closer to assisting local university students in the region after the appointment of a centre manager.
Erin Callaghan will commence employment on Monday, 8 April 2019.
While refurbishments of the two campuses in Griffith and Leeton take place, Ms Callaghan will be familiarising herself with the CUC model by visiting the Snowy Monaro Office in Cooma to learn more about operations.
Ms Callaghan brings to the role a wealth of teaching knowledge. She completed a Bachelor of Education (Secondary – History and PDHPE) at Griffith University in 2012 and proceeded to pursue a teaching career at Mount Austin High School Wagga.
Chair of the CUC Western Riverina Ltd Board, John Dal Broi said, redesign and fit-out work for the Griffith premises, located at the old State Bank House and in Leeton at the Leeton Shire Library building, would commence soon, with the doors scheduled to open during the first week of July 2019.
When operational, the CUCWR will be a high-tech facility providing University level distance education opportunities to students in the region.
“The Board looks forward to working with Ms Callaghan to ensure the success of the Griffith and Leeton facilities,” Mr Dal Broi said.
“We are currently working on the layout for the internal renovations for our campuses.
“When complete, locals will have access to a shared space in which students, regardless of what they are studying or if they are taking courses at a traditional bricks-and-mortar uni or online, can go and find a welcoming learning environment in which to achieve their goals.”
Ms Callaghan will be based in Griffith and will travel to the Leeton site. She plans to hold information sessions at schools and businesses ahead of the first intake of students in the coming months.
Registration to use the Country Universities Centre facilities will be free of charge. Students will have swipe card access to the centre from early in the morning until late at night.
Tutoring, computer terminals and other students all combine to create a strong educational environment. Any Australian university student is welcome to use a CUC to help further his or her education.
