COVID-19: Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Queensland, Launches Community Update Service

The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Queensland, has launched an online community update service in order to keep communities informed of relevant COVID-19 health information, the availability of medications, purchase restrictions and any impact on support service delivery.

Queensland Branch President, Professor Trent Twomey, said it was vital in times like these to ensure Australians have clear, accessible and factual information delivered to them to reassure Queenslanders that they can still access the support, services and medicines they need.

“There is a lot of concern and stress surrounding the impacts of COVID-19, but we want to make sure we can alleviate some of this by communicating directly with people and keeping Queensland communities informed,” said Professor Twomey.

“Community pharmacies are a vital part of our primary health care system and are on the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic. For more than 90 years the Pharmacy Guild has been a trusted provider of information, advice and expert knowledge on medicines and primary health care issues.”

“Misinformation is one of the major problems we are facing, and in tandem with new dispensing limits, we can hopefully put an end to panic buying and ensure all Australians have fair and equitable access to medicines,” he said.

The service allows those who register to be updated by email or by SMS and will provide regular updates as soon as information is available. To sign up for the free-of-charge service visit www.guild.org.au/covid-19/consumer.
