COVID Hotel Absconder Charged

Just before 5.30pm a man was apprehended by police after he absconded while being transferred between quarantine hotels.

The 25 year old had been identified as an unauthorised traveller when he arrived in the state on 25 October, and placed into hotel quarantine.

He was being transferred from the Ibis to the Travelodge Hobart Airport when he ran from the bus on arrival.

Police were called and apprehended the man nearby about 30 minutes later.

The risk to the community is low as the man has returned a negative covid test and had no contact with the community during that time.

The man will appear in court tomorrow charged with breaching covid directions.
