COVID-19 Update: One new case of COVID-19 in the NT – correction

6 November 2021

One new case of COVID-19 has been recorded in the Northern Territory in the past 24 hours bringing the cluster total to three cases.

The new positive case is a woman in her 20s from Cairns who flew into Darwin on 29 October 2021 and spent the weekend with the first positive case. The woman is undertaking quarantine at the Centre for National Resilience. She has had her first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Genomic sequencing is being undertaken to determine the origin of the COVID-19 outbreak in the NT.

A significant contact tracing effort remains underway to identify those people who have visited public exposure sites in Greater Darwin and Katherine to ensure they are isolating and getting tested.

To date, NT Health contact tracers have identified 100 close contacts, of which 80 have been contacted and are currently isolating. Another 17 close contacts are yet to be contacted and three are yet to be identified. Negative test results have been returned for 19 close contacts with further results expected today.

Public exposure sites have been updated and some locations reclassified. All people who attended Monsoons Darwin between 10am on 29 October 2021 to 4am on 30 October 2021, are required to get tested and isolate until a negative test is returned. It is important all people in the NT continue to regularly check the COVID-19 website to review the list of NT public exposure sites here.

Significant testing has been undertaken with 1299 COVID-19 tests completed across Darwin and Katherine yesterday. It is critical that anyone who has symptoms, gets tested for COVID-19. Testing is the key to assisting our health teams determine the mystery link and source of this outbreak.

The Katherine Drive-Through Testing Site is open all weekend from 8:30am to 6:30pm. Bookings are preferred.

The Marrara Drive-Through Testing Site in Darwin is open from 8am to 8pm over the weekend. Bookings are not required.

When attending drive-through testing sites, please ensure you wear a mask, stay in your car and bring photo ID and your Medicare card.

Territorians are being reminded that the lockout and lockdown restrictions continue to apply for Katherine and Greater Darwin. Visit the COVID website here for lockdown / lock out details.

Territorians in the lockdown or lockout areas should not travel within the NT, unless it is for one of the essential reasons. Essential workers are only allowed to leave lockout/lockdown areas if they are fully vaccinated.

Territorians in lockdown or lockout areas, are permitted to leave the NT and travel interstate, by air only. You will be required to follow the border entry conditions of that jurisdiction.

There has also been a surge in demand for the COVID-19 vaccine with 6059 bookings made between 10pm on 4 November 2021 and 10pm on 5 November 2021. This is the second highest day of bookings recorded.

The largest number of COVID-19 vaccine doses were also administered yesterday across NT Vaccination Centres in Darwin, Palmerston and Coolalinga with 1600 doses provided.

NT COVID-19 Vaccination Centre opening hours have been extended across the NT, with appointments still available for today. Danila Dilba Health Service is Darwin has also extended operating hours this weekend for its clinics in Darwin City, Palmerston, Rapid Creek and Malak. Walk-ins are welcome.
