Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet COVID-19 Update: Two new cases recorded in the NT, Katherine exits lockout

The Northern Territory has recorded two new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases from the NT outbreak to 63. These cases were in quarantine while infectious, they include:

· A female in her 20s from Katherine. She is the mother of a child who is a previously reported case of COVID-19. The mother and child are in isolation at Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH).

· A female infant from Katherine who is a household contact of a previously reported case. She is in isolation at the Centre for National Resilience (CNR).

There are currently 216 active close contacts for cluster two. Of these, all have been contacted and are isolating and 199 have returned a negative test.

A male in his 50s with COVID-19 remains in a stable condition at RDH.

Wastewater testing results for the Bicentennial Road catchment site in Katherine were again positive.

Katherine, Binjari and Rockhole exit lockout

Katherine, Binjari and Rockhole exited lockout at midday today, December 8. There are now no restrictions on the reasons to leave home for people who are vaccinated and unvaccinated.

A mask mandate will remain in place in until midday on Wednesday, December 15, 2021.

Face masks must be worn outside of the home when you are unable to maintain a physical distance of 1.5 metres. Facemasks do not have to be worn while exercising or playing sport.

COVID-19 testing

Almost 3,000 COVID-19 tests were processed across the NT yesterday. This includes approximately 200 tests from Katherine.

It is critical that anyone in the Territory who has symptoms gets tested for COVID-19 immediately to help prevent the spread of the virus.

The Katherine Hospital Pandemic Clinic (Drive-Through Testing Site) is open from 9am until 4:30pm. Bookings are preferred.

The Katherine East Side Clinic is located in the Youth Outreach Building in the Eastside Shop Complex and is open from 9am to 4:30pm. Bookings are preferred.

The Marrara Drive-Through Testing Site in Darwin is open from 10am to 6pm. Bookings are preferred.

COVID-19 testing sites are also open in Alice Springs, Tennant Creek and Nhulunbuy. Testing is also available at NT Health clinics in remote communities.

To reduce the risk of COVID-19 spreading in our communities, it is important for everyone to follow all health directions and vaccinations for all those eligible.

· Book your COVID-19 vaccine

· Check in using The Territory Check In App every time, everywhere

· If you have symptoms, stay away from others and get tested for COVID-19

· Wash your hands with soap and water and use hand sanitiser regularly

· Do not go to work if you feel sick

· Maintain a physical distance of 1.5 metres where possible.
