Cr Bill Moar elected as Mayor

Councillor Bill Moar has been elected Mayor of Swan Hill Rural City Council at today’s Statutory Council Meeting.

Cr Moar will be Mayor until 24 October 2020 – the 2020 Council election date. It will be Cr Moar’s first term as Mayor, following his election to Council in 2016.

He thanked his fellow Councillors for elected him as Mayor.

“It has been a steady learning curve since joining Council and I now feel prepared to take on this role. I thank Councillors for this vote of confidence and look forward to working with them for the remainder of our term,” Cr Moar said.

“I also want to thank Cr Young for her work during her term as Mayor. As Cr Young said at today’s meeting, it has been a successful 12 months across the municipality, with many projects coming to fruition and Council playing a strong role in advocating for improvements in health, water and infrastructure.

“I hope to help Council continue this positive trend and look forward to working with people in the Swan Hill, Robinvale and surrounding communities.”

Cr Moar has been a resident of Swan Hill region for most of his life, working primarily as a farmer but also training and working in aged care. He has been a regular volunteer for community groups too, currently part of Sunrise Rotary club of Swan Hill.

At today’s meeting, Councillors also elected a Deputy Mayor – Cr Chris Jeffery.

The 2020 meeting schedule was also determined today, and will see Ordinary Council Meetings held mostly on the third Tuesday of each month.
