Creating Jobs and Building Stronger Communities: Latest Round of CBF Grants Awarded

The Territory Labor Government hasawarded $4.8 million to local community organisations in the latest round ofthe Community Benefit Fund major grants.

CBF grants provide much needed fundingfor community organisations to continue to deliver services and recreationalopportunities for Territorians as well as providing a much needed boost to theTerritory economy. The CBF is funded by a levy on electronic gaming machines inlicensed hotels.

Across the Territory, 44 communityorganisations will use the funding to support the purchase of equipment, newand upgraded infrastructure, improved transport and much more.

The Darwin Mens Shed received $165,000to relocate from Casuarina to a new premises in Winnellie. The Darwin Mens Shedis part of the Australian network that provides a place for men to not onlywork on woodwork or metalwork projects but to make and sustain friendshipswhile retaining an active mind and body.

Other recipients include Bima WearAboriginal Designs on the Tiwi Islands, which received funding for buildingmaintenance and structural repairs. The $192,000 grant will provide jobs forcontractors and will refresh Bima Wears premises for years to come.

Darwin Deckchair Cinema also received a$35,000 CBF grant to improve their dining seating creating a more luxuriousattraction for locals and visitors to enjoy.

As stated by the Attorney-General andMinister for Justice, Natasha Fyles:

The Community Benefit Fund is animportant funding stream for local organisations to continue to providecommunity services, leisure activities and job-creating opportunities.

Many of these organisations supportevents that enhance our lifestyle and help to draw visitors to sample theTerritory, putting valuable dollars into our economy.

Weve supported local communityorganisations by overhauling the CBF funding model to make it more streamlined maximising benefits for Territorians whilst reducing processing time forapplicants.

The next major grant funding roundopens in January but minor grants are available all year round. I encourageTerritory community organisations to apply.
