Creating Momentum jobs in Tasmania

Peter Gutwein,Premier

Guy Barnett,Minister for Energy

The Tasmanian majority Liberal Government’s priority is jobs, and we are delivering our commitment to relocate jobs from Hydro Tasmania’s Victorian-based retail business Momentum Energy to its customer service operations in Tasmania.

By the end of next month, more than 40 Tasmanians will have been employed in customer roles in Cambridge, previously carried out in Melbourne, well ahead of our schedule to deliver the total of more than 70 jobs over this term of Government.

Today we were pleased to tour the Cambridge Centre, which already houses Momentum’s phone-based sales centre, to welcome new employees, meet existing staff and support Momentum Energy’s open day to boost even more recruitment.

This Government is all about jobs with more than 18,000 created since we came to office, and in this case jobs in the growing regional centre of Cambridge.

As a business owned by the Tasmanian Government we believe it is important that Momentum Energy provides jobs for Tasmanians.

A recent open day held in December was attended by 150 people and boosted recruitment, and this campaign will continue through January and February, with today’s open day.

Momentum Energy will continue to have a strong presence in Melbourne, to ensure it continues to thrive in a competitive market and remain close to its customers on the mainland.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to creating opportunities to boost employment in regional areas.
