The final piece of the Crestwood Reserve Waterways Revitalisation Project is now complete.

The opening of a brand-new pedestrian bridge located within Crestwood Reserve marks the last stage of the creek and pathway upgrade, which began in 2020.

The Reserve is one of the biggest outdoor facilities in Baulkham Hills and includes both sporting and recreational elements, such as barbecue facilities, children’s playground, rugby league fields, an outdoor gym, skate park, tennis courts, a dog park, a children’s learn-to-cycle track and much more.

“One of my goals as Mayor has been to improve our walking links and connectivity. I’m delighted to see that we have achieved this here at Crestwood Reserve,” Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi said.

A second bridge, which is located further downstream, also received an upgrade as part of the revitalisation project and opened to the community in June. This included raising the original bridge, stabilising the Toongabbie Creek banks adjacent to the bridge and new concrete pathway connections.

Further bank stabilisation works were carried out along the creekline (within the Reserve) to improve the water quality and drainage capacity of the local waterway.

“We’ve been able to repair erosion occurring along the Toongabbie creekline, which is an important body of water that is home to many species of plants and animals,” Mayor Gangemi said. “It also flows into Parramatta River, whose banks provide a home to many native species such as the Eastern Long-necked Turtle, Powerful Owl, Striped Marsh Frog and many more.”

In addition to this, new shared pathways were also built, and bush regeneration activities were carried out to improve the overall amenity of the area.

“I’m proud of the work that has been completed at Crestwood Reserve,” Mayor Gangemi said.

“These improvements have incorporated the Creek and provided the perfect opportunity for people to enjoy a scenic stroll, as well as access into the Reserve’s many attractions and facilities,” he added.

Bushland regeneration activities along the creekline will continue throughout the year.
