Critical incident declared after man shot during confrontation with police at Narraweena, NSW

A critical incident has been declared after a man was shot following a confrontation with police at Narraweena this evening.

Officers from the Northern Beaches Police Area Command were called to a home on Warringah Road

about 5.20pm (Friday 11 June 2021), when they were approached by a man, allegedly armed with a knife.

Police will allege the man threw a fire extinguisher at a male officer, hitting him in the head. He was also stabbed in the hand during the confrontation.

A shot was discharged by a second officer, with the man sustaining a wound to the leg.

The man has been taken under police guard to hospital in a stable condition.

The officer has also been taken to hospital for treatment.

Neither injury is believed to be life-threatening.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident in ongoing.

A critical incident team from an independent police area command will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation will also be subject to independent review.
