The Manjaree Aboriginal Student Space on the Fremantle Campus recently hosted a highly successful cultural awareness training session, led by National Director, Partnerships and Community Engagement Clive Walley.
Titled ‘A Sharing of Cultural Knowledge on Nyungar Country,’ the event drew a strong turnout and aimed to deepen attendees’ understanding of Nyungar culture, traditions, and protocols. Clive Walley, alongside Indigenous Elders from the University, shared extensive knowledge and experience, creating an engaging and enlightening atmosphere for participants.
Through interactive workshops and discussions, attendees gained valuable insights into the significance of cultural sensitivity and the importance of acknowledging and respecting Indigenous perspectives.
The workshops emphasised the importance of cultural sensitivity in the workplace and wider community. Participants were encouraged to apply their newfound knowledge to daily interactions, ensuring respectful engagement with Indigenous colleagues, students, and community members. The training also highlighted the importance of incorporating Indigenous perspectives and knowledge systems into various disciplines.
The success of this cultural awareness training session paves the way for future workshops and events at the Manjaree Aboriginal Student Space. The university is committed to providing ongoing opportunities for staff, students, and the wider community to engage in similar programs.
