Cumberland City gears up for Australia Day celebrations

Cumberland City Council is set to light up the night sky with a spectacular fireworks display at the upcoming Australia Day family event.

While health and safety measures are in place to ensure the event is COVID-safe and adheres to health directives, families and friends are encouraged to bring a picnic rug and join the celebrations at Holroyd Gardens on 26 January from 6pm to 9pm.

Mayor of Cumberland City Lisa Lake said that Australia Day is one of our nation’s most loved holidays, giving people the chance to get together and celebrate what it truly means to be Australian.

“On Australia Day, we acknowledge the contribution of all Australians, and in Cumberland we will see people of all cultures celebrating what we love about our country and community”.

“The diversity of Cumberland is so vibrant and lively. It’s a great depiction of what defines us as Australians”, said Mayor Lisa Lake.

The Australia Day event program promises to be an enjoyable family event with something for everyone. Residents are encouraged to gather the family and come along to enjoy main stage performances by local artists, live shows by BBC’s Bluey and Bingo, an outdoor cinema and of course an immersive fireworks display.

Celebrations on the day will also include a Citizen of the Year and Community Pride Awards, held in conjunction with a special Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony at the Eric Tweedale Stadium, where 250 residents will join the Cumberland community as our newest Australian citizens.
