Dangerous operation of stolen vehicles at Townsville 9 December

Police have arrested three youths and charged an adult male following multiple stolen vehicles being driven dangerously in Townsville overnight.

Four vehicles were seen being driven dangerously at speed on the wrong side of the road. Three vehicles were also driven at police vehicles on Cape Pallarenda Road in Rowes Bay around 3.25am.

Police located all four vehicles stopped in Reardon Street, Currajong. A man was arrested at the scene and three vehicles fled.

The vehicles included a silver Ford Ranger, a blue LDV T60 Dual Cab towing a trailer, a silver VW Golf and a grey Mazda CX-5.

Acting Superintendent Chris Lawson said dangerous driving targeting police officers and members of the community would not be tolerated.

“We have commenced Operation Tango Donati today to target the offenders committing these burglaries and unlawful use of motor vehicles.

“Townsville police are actively working to ensure these people are held to account and put before the court to answer for their actions.”

A 19-year-old Townsville man will appear in Townsville Magistrates Court today charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possessing tainted property and obstructing police.

Investigators are calling on members of the public who may have information or dashcam or CCTV footage to contact police.
