Top End temperatures drop
For two mornings running Darwin has recorded its coldest temperatures since the last Dry Season.
The overnight minimum temperature at Darwin Airport got as cold as 17.8 °C at 7am on Saturday, then again at 3:03am this morning.
These cold starts to the morning only occur during the Dry Season and were from the latest surge of cool, dry air in the Top End.
Rain forecast for the south
A cloud band extending from Western Australia will bring showers to the south over the next few days. Widespread daily totals of 20-25mm are expected over the southwest Lasseter District tomorrow, with falls of 5-15mm elsewhere in the District.
The focus of the rainfall will move east on Wednesday, with isolated falls of 10-20mm and thunderstorms possible over the Barkly District and 5-15mm across the Tanami and Simpson Districts.
Thunderstorms possible in the north
Today is the last day of the dry air for the Top End. The winds are changing tomorrow, bringing the return of morning fog and sea breezes.
There is a chance of a shower and thunderstorm over the Top End from Wednesday through to Friday associated with the moisture surge. Strong winds will impact the northern coastline on Saturday and Sunday.
True Dry Season conditions will return to the Top End from Monday next week.
