DDSW Qld Mayors endorse signing regional waste strategy agreement

A new era in regional waste management was signalled on Sunday (October 24) with 12 Mayors from southern and western Queensland endorsing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Mayors from the 10-member Darling Downs and South West Queensland (DDSWQ) Council of Mayors agreed to sign the MoU along with the Mayors from Lockyer Valley Regional Council and South Burnett Regional Council at a quarterly meeting in Mackay.

DDSWQ Council of Mayors chair Cr Paul Antonio said the move to establish a Regional Waste Management Strategy and Infrastructure Plan was a sensible step. Cr Antonio also is the Mayor of the Toowoomba Region.

“Every local government is mindful of how it can meet its legislative requirements covering waste management,” Mayor Antonio said.

“All of the Mayors have identified waste as not only an emerging issue, but an opportunity for Councils to work together.
