December and January school holiday program

Darwin City Council

City of Darwin’s jam-packed school holiday program is sure to keep the kids busy and active during the upcoming school holidays, with a program of free activities kicking off from Saturday 16 December 2023.

Featuring a range of Christmas-themed activities during December 2023, and an eclectic range of events during January, there really is something for everyone to enjoy.

Chief Executive Officer Simone Saunders encouraged residents to try something new these holidays.

“There are plenty of different activities for people to enjoy – from indoor sports to animal education sessions and a fun-filled library program – there really is something for everyone to take part in,” Ms Saunders said.

“There is also a fantastic recycling session on the program, which explains through fun games what happens to waste that goes in the yellow recycling bin.

“Plus, we have workshops where children can learn how to make their own woven masterpiece using flowers, palm fronds and fresh leaves,” Ms Saunders said.

During December, Baby Book Time, Rhyme Time and Family Story Time for children five years and under will continue as per usual library programming up until Christmas day, but with a special Christmas theme.

Throughout January, the Fun Bus will feature a range of different themes, including playdough making and dancing.

There will also be a range of free movies to enjoy, suitable for big and little kids.

For the older children, the annual by-fans, for-fans Geektacular event is back, featuring a creative, fun and inclusive event that includes Dungeons and Dragons, cosplay, boardgames, minimarket and e-sports for children 15 years and older.

All activities are free and open to the public. Registration is required for some activities. For a full program and to register, please visit darwin.nt.gov.au/school-holidays or launchdarwin.com.au
