The Crisafulli Government’s investment in major events is delivering for Queensland, with new figures showing the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo generated more than $47.2 million for the State’s economy.
The internationally renowned event attracted more than 120,700 attendees and participants across four performances in Brisbane earlier this year.
More than 72,000 visitors travelled from outside the region to attend the Tattoo, generating more than 184,000 visitor nights and providing a significant boost to accommodation providers, hospitality venues, tourism operators and local businesses.
The results exceeded expectations, with economic benefits around 21 per cent higher than forecast.
The Crisafulli Government delivered the internationally acclaimed event as part of the Destination 2045 Strategy, to enhance Queensland’s reputation as one of the world’s leading tourism destinations, after a decline of decline and neglect under Labor.
The figures reinforce the critical role major events play in growing Queensland’s visitor economy, supporting jobs and delivering economic benefits across the State.
Minister for the Environment and Tourism Andrew Powell said the results showed exactly why the Government was investing in a stronger pipeline of major events for Queensland.
“When we came to Government, Queensland’s tourism industry was staring down a funding cliff that would have put future events, future jobs and future investment at risk,” Minister Powell said.
“Instead, we’re backing major events because we know they fill hotel rooms, support local businesses and drive our visitor economy.
“The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo delivered strong results for Queensland with more than $47 million in economic impact and more than 184,000 visitor nights generated.
“That’s the difference between a government with a plan to grow tourism and a Labor Party that was prepared to gut funding that brings visitors to Queensland.”
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo delivered strong economic and tourism benefits for the city.
“The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo was a major success for Brisbane this year, exceeding our projections and generating more than $47 million for the economy,” Cr Schrinner said.
“This is exactly why we back major events. They fill our hotels, pack our restaurants, create local jobs and add to the energy of our vibrant city.
“With nearly 150,000 visitor nights just in Brisbane, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo gave residents and visitors alike the chance to experience one of the world’s greatest live shows right here in our city.
“Events like this cement Brisbane’s reputation as Australia’s lifestyle capital and a leading destination for the world’s best.”
Dustin Lockett, CEO, The Entertainment Lab and Co-Promoter said it was a privilege to work alongside the Crisafulli Government via Tourism and Events Queensland, Brisbane City Council via Brisbane Economic Development Agency, and Suncorp Stadium to deliver The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Brisbane.
“Their commitment, collaboration and support were instrumental in the event’s success, helping generate significant tourism, economic and community benefits for Queensland,” Mr Lockett said.
