This week in Parliament the Rockliff Liberal Government will continue to do what matters for all Tasmanians.
Leader of the House, Felix Ellis, said the Government is focused on delivering our long-term plan to grow the economy and create more jobs, while also acting to keep Tasmanians safe and reducing red tape.
“The Government will be bringing on important legislation that will improve the lives of Tasmanians.
“We’ll be taking strong action to keep Tasmanians safe from illegal firearms, delivering more rights and a better framework to protect Tasmanians living in retirement villages from unfair fee increases, and reducing red tape for local charities and the forestry industry.
Legislation being progressed includes the Water Miscellaneous Amendments (Delegation and Industrial Water Supply) Bill, the Retirement Villages Amendment Bill, the Firearms Amendment (Community Safety) Bill, the Forestry (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill and the Charities and Associations Law (Miscellaneous) Amendment Bill 2023.
“The Justice and Related Legislation (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill (No. 2) will reform the way family violence matters are treated by the Coroner.
“Once passed, the Coroner will be required by law to hold a hearing where they suspect family violence has materially contributed to a death.
“We’ll also be debating legislation this week that takes the next step in our journey towards a local hydrogen industry. Green hydrogen is a huge opportunity for our state and we’re ready to grasp it with both hands.
“This week we will highlight the significant investment being made so that Tasmanians can access the health services they need no matter their postcode.
“We are relentlessly pursuing every opportunity to deliver the health system Tasmanians need with record funding of more than $8 million a day, increasing our health workforce and building better healthcare services.”
Minister Ellis reiterated that any time spent in time-wasting debates would be made up for later in the day.
“Tasmanians don’t have time for political games designed only to disrupt important work and passing legislation that will improve their lives,” Minister Ellis said.
“Tasmanians can see very clearly how the Rockliff Liberal Government’s strong plan for the State is being reflected in the Parliament.”
The Parliament will also swear in the new Member for Clark, Simon Behrakis MP.
