Dementia Australia support in Mackay and Proserpine

Are you concerned about your memory or worried that someone you know may have dementia? Dementia Australia is offering a range of support in Mackay and Proserpine between 30 November and 2 December 2021.

There are estimated to be more than 3,000 people living with dementia in the federal electorate of Dawson. Without a medical breakthrough, this number is expected to increase to an estimated 5,000 people living with dementia by 2058.

The Dementia Australia courses are an opportunity for people living with dementia, their carers, family and friends to attend free education sessions and to discuss the support and services Dementia Australia can provide. Please note, bookings are essential.

Events and education sessions include:

Grief, loss and dementia

This session provides an overview of the grief, loss and emotional impact of the changes caused by dementia.

Introduction to Dementia

This session provides an introduction to dementia, including an overview of different types of dementia, diagnosis, planning ahead and how to support someone living with dementia.

If you are passionate about your local community and want to make it more dementia-friendly then this session is for you.

Communication and Dementia

This session provides information on dementia, the way we communicate and how changes in communication can occur as a result of dementia.

Younger Onset Dementia

This session provides information specific to younger people diagnosed with dementia and their carers, exploring the unique impacts of younger onset dementia.

Worried about your memory?

This session provides information on memory and common changes that may occur with ageing. It provides strategies for improving memory, when to seek help about your concerns and services provided by Dementia Australia.
