Demolition company fined for illegal dumping

An Altona North demolition and excavation company has received multiple fines for illegally dumping industrial waste.

All Vic Demolition and Excavation Pty Ltd dumped four truckloads of building waste including building and timber waste on Harrisons Road, Werribee South in February this year.

Wyndham City Council received reports of the dumping and their Litter Officer investigated establishing a link between the dumped waste and a recently demolished residential property. Notices were sent to All Vic Demolition and Excavation demanding action but were not responded to.

Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) worked with the council to further investigate. Council deemed there was a risk to leaving the waste in place and removed it. Three separate fines are being issued to All Vic Demolition & Excavation Pty Ltd; these include an EPA fine of $8,261 and two fines from Wyndham Council totaling $2,313.

“All Vic’s website claims they are “proud of our capability to recycle most demolition waste reducing our impact on the environment.”. This action is certainly not in keeping with that claim,” said EPA Western Metro Regional Manager Steve Lansdell.

“EPA and Wyndham City Council agree that waste crime like this is a major issue that poses a risk to the community and must be treated extremely seriously,” he said.

“All Vic have shown they are not willing to address this particular event and a fine is the only practical way forward at this time.”

Wyndham City Council’s Director City Operations Stephen Thorpe said Council took illegal commercial dumping seriously and would continue to work in collaboration with the EPA to send a clear message that this behaviour in Wyndham would not be tolerated.
