The Andrews Labor Government is continuing to deliver more high-quality aged care services, with designs revealed for a new $134 million residential aged care facility at the Kingston Centre in Cheltenham.
Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers Colin Brooks today unveiled a first look at designs for the 150-bed facility, which will cater for residents with complex needs as part of the Labor Government’s record investment to upgrade and redevelop Victoria’s public aged care sector.
The project will ensure older Victorians continue to receive the best possible care and has been designed to support resident mobility and independence in a dementia-friendly environment that feels like home.
The new multi-storey building will feature modern single rooms and private ensuite bathrooms, a community room, reflection space and other common areas for residents to stay connected with each other as well as loved ones.
The new facility will also use an enhanced ventilation and air conditioning system, supporting our hardworking aged care staff to better protect residents against the spread of infectious airborne particles.
To make the most of the surrounding natural environment, the designs ensure residents will have open area views, an abundance of natural light and access to terraces and gardens.
The building’s facade and fit outs have been carefully designed to create a modern, safe and comfortable place for residents to call home as well as a contemporary and efficient working environment for staff.
There will be easy access to a broad range of integrated services at the Kingston Centre, including cognitive dementia and memory services as well as mobility clinics for people who experience issues with falls and balance.
The redevelopment is expected to be completed by 2025 and will be operated by Monash Health as part of more than $618 million the Labor Government has invested in upgrades to public aged care since coming to government, including improvements to safety, care and resident amenity.
