Detectives seek red hatch after St Albans hit and run

Police are appealing for the driver of a red hatch back to come forward after a fatal hit and run collision which claimed the life of a man in St Albans last night.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and believe the hatch will have damage to the central bonnet and windscreen.

Detectives believe the driver of the hatch was travelling east along Main Road East before it struck the St Albans man near the corner of Erica Avenue about 9pm.

The driver did not stop to render assistance and is yet to be located.

A passer-by called emergency services but the 78-year-old died at the scene.

Detectives also wish to speak with the drivers of two dark coloured vehicles also seen on Main Road East before the crash and appeal to them to come forward.

Investigators have released images and CCTV footage of the red hatch and the two other vehicles seen in the area at the time and wish to speak to the drivers of those vehicles.

Anyone with information, dash cam footage or who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
