Digital parking signs improve parking visibility in CBD

Darwin City Council

As part of City of Darwin’s 2030 Movement Strategy, which aims to make it easier for all people to move around the city by improving streetscapes, infrastructure and connectivity, City of Darwin, in partnership with Activate Darwin, is pleased to launch new digital parking signage across the city today (Friday 29 September 2023).

Strategically positioned on main roads on the outskirts of the CBD, the digital signs display real time parking availability in the undercover multi-storey car parks at West Lane, Dragonfly, Waterfront and State Square car parks.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the digital parking signs would enable people to quickly ascertain where available parks were upon entering the city.

“We are thrilled to launch these new digital parking signs today, in support of improving wayfinding in the CBD, one of the key objectives from the 2030 Movement Strategy.

“We are proud to be able to offer over 2,500 parking spots within the city, and these digital signs will help people quickly see how many spots are available as they enter the CBD.”

“The multi-storey car parks at West Lane, Dragonfly, Waterfront and State Square offer all day parking that are undercover, out of the sun and rain, and in immediate proximity to all the great businesses Darwin has to offer.”

The digital parking signs were jointly funded between the Northern Territory Government and City of Darwin.

“These new digital signs will help to activate our City and, in conjunction with other initiatives we have in place, will make it easier for people to move around our suburbs, bringing more vibrancy to the municipality,” Mr Vatskalis said.

Quotes attributable to the Member for Port Darwin, Paul Kirby:

“This great initiative will make it easier for people to visit our city, park with ease, support local businesses and enjoy experiences.

“This is another project supported by Activate Darwin that will encourage people to spend more time in our city and deliver additional vibrancy.

“Our CBD has never looked better and I congratulate the City of Darwin Council on all of the improvements undertaken.”
