Disability Community Hold their Breath Awaiting Public Release of Royal Commission Release

Australian Greens

The Disability Royal Commission has been handed to the Governor General, ahead of its public release anticipated tomorrow, Friday 29th September.

Australian Greens Senator Steele-John led the campaign to establish the Disability Royal Commission and he is calling on the Albanese Government to commit to a clear action plan and funding to achieve disability justice in Australia.

Lines As put by Senator Jordon Steele-John, Disabled Person and Australian Greens Spokesperson for Disability Rights and Services:

“On the eve of the public release of the Disability Royal Commission, the Australian Disability Community is feeling anxious and united in our demands for urgent reform.

“The Australian Disability Community have done our part. We’ve shared our experiences, our darkest moments with the commission, all with the intention of improving the lives of millions of disabled Australians.

“Alongside the disability community, the Greens are urging the government to commit to resourcing the implementation of the Royal Commission’s recommendations.

“It’s no secret that one of the biggest barriers to the success of Royal Commission’s past has been government action and the lack of resourcing for the implementation of the recommendations. With no government funding committed towards the implementation of the Disability Royal Commission recommendations, we are all holding our breath and expecting our governments to answer our calls for change.”
