Disaster assistance has been extended to the Carpentaria, Flinders and Winton Councils to help rebuild after the recent monsoon and flooding.
Assistance is being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
Minister for Natural Disaster and Emergency Management David Littleproud said the Federal and State Governments would share clean-up and repair costs with councils.
“This will help flood-hit communities clean-up and fix roads and other to community infrastructure,” Minister Littleproud said.
“This will let the community get back to business sooner, helping speed up the recovery.
“We are standing shoulder-to-shoulder with these communities and will make further assistance available if it’s needed.”
Queensland Minister for Emergency Services Craig Crawford said the funding will assist the rural and remote councils with restoring damaged public infrastructure and alleviate the financial burden on these impacted communities.
“The communities of Carpentaria, Flinders and Winton were heavily impacted by the monsoon floods in 2019 and, just like last year, we are again pleased to be able to provide assistance following this latest flooding event,” Minister Crawford.
“As additional information comes to light in relation to the impacts of the floods, the Queensland Government will continue to work with the Commonwealth to provide impacted communities with the recovery assistance they need.”
DRFA assistance in response to the 2020 monsoon floods is now available in nine local government areas: Barcaldine, Barcoo, Blackall-Tambo, Burdekin, Carpentaria, Flinders, Longreach, Townsville and Winton.
