Disqualified driver cahrged over fatal crash in Moorebank

A disqualified driver has been charged after a female motorcyclist died in a crash at Moorebank overnight.

About 11.35pm on Saturday (19 September 2020), emergency services were called to the intersection of Heathcote Road and the M5 at Moorebank, after reports a Honda HRV wagon and a motorcycle collided.

The motorcyclist, a 27-year-old woman, was stopped at the lights when she was struck from behind by the Honda CRV.

She was treated on scene for serious head and internal injuries by ambulance paramedics and was taken to Liverpool Hospital; however, she died in hospital earlier this morning.

The Honda driver – a 32-year-old man from Doonside, was taken to Liverpool Hospital for treatment for back injuries. He also underwent mandatory testing.

Officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command and the Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Following inquiries, the driver was arrested about 10.40am today at Liverpool Hospital and taken to Liverpool Police Station.

He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death – drive in a manner dangerous, negligent driving occasioning death, not stop at red light and drive whilst disqualified.

The man was refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court tomorrow (Monday 21 September 2020).

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner regarding the woman’s death.
