Today marks the commencement of the new informationsharing laws which will improve safety for victims experiencing domestic andfamily violence in the Northern Territory.
Territory Families ChiefExecutive Officer Mr Ken Davies said there is no place for domestic or familyviolence in our community.
Violence in any form is notacceptable.
Everyone, particularlychildren, deserve a safe and happy home life, he said.
The changes to informationsharing laws around domestic and family violence will enable victims to bebetter supported and get the help they need sooner.
This is a change will providegreater protection from the threat of violence.
The Scheme allows Information SharingEntities (for example relevant Government agencies and non-Government schools)to share relevant information, where it is necessary to protect people fromserious threats of domestic and family violence.
The new laws aim to remove barriersbetween services so they can work together to:
improve safety for victims of DFV;
facilitate timely action from services, andreferrals and collaboration between services;
prevent victims having to tell their storiesover and over.
