“Don’t struggle in silence”

Attend your local Salvation Army financial event during virtual Anti-Poverty Week

Event details:

Katoomba Virtual Open Day

20 October 2021

10:00am

The Salvation Army is encouraging financially stressed Australians to reach out for support early to avoid potentially devastating ongoing debt this Anti-Poverty Week, October 17-23.

One of the ways people in the Blue Mountains can do this is by attending the free financial wellbeing online event run by The Salvation Army.

This event will be a virtual open day and showcase The Salvation Army’s free financial counselling service, Moneycare, and The Salvos emergency financial relief service, Doorways, along with other local community organisations. To register for this virtual event taking place on Wednesday 20th October at 10:00am please contact Rovind Kant on 02 9633 5011.

“The Salvation Army has a broad array of financial services that individuals and families can reach out to if they need support. Please, don’t struggle in silence- attend your local event or reach out to The Salvation Army for support. We are here to help,” says Rovind Kant, Salvation Army Moneycare financial counsellor.

The Salvation Army has a range of services available where individuals and families can reach out for financial support. Two of these are Moneycare, which is The Salvation Army’s free and confidential financial counselling service, and Doorways, The Salvation Army’s emergency financial relief service.

Moneycare’s services are unique and adaptable to individual circumstances, and can help across the following areas:

– Advocacy with banks and other financial institutions to help with debt relief

– Advocacy with utility providers (electricity etc) to help with affordable repayments

– Letting you know what your rights are and other places you can get help

– Financial counselling and support to get you through the tough times

Furthermore, The Salvos Doorways service is available to support people facing urgent financial need. As the largest provider of emergency relief in Australia, Doorways can provide immediate financial relief for people who need urgent help paying for food and other essential goods.

These services are proven to significantly improve one’s financial situation. After engagement with Moneycare, those with no difficulty in financial knowledge and behaviour increased to 95% (increase from 75% at intake), and those with no difficulty meeting living expenses increased from 18% to 54%.

The Salvation Army’s services also have shown to improve one’s overall wellbeing, where those with no probable serious mental illness increased from 68% to 87% after engagement with Moneycare.
