Two much anticipated Swan Hill projects will be open to the public today – the Milloo Street boat ramp and the new Swan Hill Skate Park.
The extended two-lane boat ramp has been completed on the Murray River on Milloo Street, along with a sealed car park and long vehicle parking. Public toilets will be built in the near future.
The new concrete skate park has been built at Riverside Park, and features a 1.5m bowl, quarterpipe with platform, and an on-the-street section including A-frame with hubba and rail, and a fun box.
Swan Hill Rural City Council Mayor Ann Young said both projects were major initiatives of the Swan Hill Riverfront Masterplan and Council was thrilled to open them on the same day.
“It is fantastic to open these two long awaited projects together. They signify Council’s commitment to showcasing our beautiful riverfront,” Cr Young said.
“We hope that local people and visitors enjoy using the new, larger boat ramp. I’m sure it will make visiting our region even more attractive to tourists who want to experience our part of the Murray River.
Cr Young said Council and contractors had worked hard to ensure the boat ramp was ready in time for the upcoming warmer spring days.
“Despite some unexpected water level rises temporarily providing a challenge for concreters, we are thrilled with the end result,” she said.
The new skate park will be part of the larger Active Play Precinct at Riverside Park. Construction of the adventure playground will start there soon.
“The new skate park is a fantastic addition to Riverside Park. It has been built to championship configuration so that we will be able to hold events there in the future,” Cr Young said.
A skate park celebration event is being planned for September – stay tuned to Council social media and local media for details.
The boat ramp project is thanks to three separate pools of funding – the State Government’s Boating Safety Facilities Program, Council and the State’s Target One Million plan, which aims to increase the number of recreational anglers across Victoria.
The skate park is thanks to funding from the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund, the State Government’s Regional Development Victoria, and Council.
