It’s a sight sure to get BMX hearts pumping.
Works are well underway on the $3.1million redevelopment of the BMX freestyle and skate park facility at Beenleigh’s Doug Larsen Park, hailed as world-class by BMX professionals.
The framework for one of the new main ramps is now in place and the steel sheeting has started to go on.
Other smaller ramps will follow with the redevelopment on track to be finished by the end of the year, weather permitting.
Cycling Australia has said Doug Larsen Park, once completed, will be the best BMX freestyle facility in the country and suitable to host international competitions.
BMX freestyle will make its Olympic debut at next year’s Tokyo Games.
The design of the new freestyle course was finalised after Council hosted a workshop that included Logan’s BMX freestyle 2017 world champion Logan Martin along with Cycling Australia Technical Director (BMX) Wade Bootes, Clint Millar from Colony BMX and Ross Lavender and Nathan Philps from the local BMX community.
