, associate professor of anesthesiology at Baylor College of Medicine, has been named Designated Institutional Official (DIO) and senior associate dean for Graduate Medical Education (GME) in Baylor College of Medicine’s School of Medicine, effective July 1, 2020.
In his new role as DIO, Harbott will collaborate with the College’s Graduate Medical Education Committee and will have authority and responsibility for the oversight and administration of Baylor’s GME program. He also will have the responsibility of assuring compliance with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, which is responsible for accrediting all graduate medical training programs for physicians in the U.S.

Harbott joined Baylor in 2005 and was named assistant program director of the anesthesiology residency program in 2007 and the associate program director in 2010. He has been the program director since 2013 and has served as the vice chair of education in anesthesiology since 2016. His professional interests include resident education, neuroanesthesia and trauma anesthesia.
He earned his medical degree in 1996 from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he completed a one-year internship in general surgery and internal medicine. In 2001, Harbott came to Baylor for his internship and residency in anesthesiology. He completed his master’s degree in healthcare administration in 2010 at Trinity University in San Antonio.
Harbott has received numerous awards and honors for his mentorship and dedication to education and has significantly contributed to graduate medical education throughout his tenure at Baylor.
