Drink driver arrested after crash in Pooraka, South Australia

A man will face court after allegedly crashing his car under the influence and assaulting an officer at Pooraka last night.

At 10pm, Friday 18 June, police and emergency services were called to Bridge Road after reports a white ute had crashed into a light pole and a tree before rolling. When police arrived the driver had fled the scene.

Patrols searched the area but couldn’t located the driver. A short time later a vehicle stopped at the intersection of Bridge and Montague Roads not far from the crash scene. The passenger of the car fitted the description of the suspected driver involved in the crash.

The alleged driver provided false details to police and was arrested. During the arrest the driver assaulted a police officer. The officer sustained a minor injury that didn’t require medical treatment.

The driver was taken to hospital for a checkup before being taken to Elizabeth Cells.

The 25-year-old man from Port Noarlunga was charged with driving without due care, state false name, drink driving, resisting arrest and assaulting a prescribed emergency worker.

He has been refused police bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday.
