Drink driving and assault police in Ayr, QLD

Police have charged a man with drink driving after he allegedly fled from officers into a cane paddock near Ayr on Saturday.

Around 1.45am police from Ayr Station intercepted a utility travelling on Giddy Road.

Police will allege the driver, when stopped by police, switched places with the male passenger in the vehicle.

The man allegedly refused to provide a sample of breath before fleeing into a nearby cane paddock.

The driver was subsequently conveyed to the Ayr Police Station where she returned a blood alcohol concentrate reading of 0.183 per cent.

The officer sustained no physical injuries from the assault.

A 29-year-old Home Hill man has been charged with failure to provide a specimen of breath for testing, two counts of obstructing police, serious assault police and high range drink driving.

He is expected to appear in the Ayr Magistrates Court on March 13.
