Driver caught more than four times over legal limit after speeding at Goulburn, NSW

A man has been charged with high-range drink-driving after allegedly being caught four times the limit in The Hume region this week.

Just after 10.30pm on Tuesday (1 February 2022), officers attached to The Hume Police District were performing speed enforcement duties on the Hume Highway, as part of Operation Australia Day 2022.

Police detected a Volkswagen sedan allegedly travelling at nearly 150km/hr in a 110km/hr sign posted area at the Goulburn Bypass.

Officers stopped the driver – a 28-year-old man – who was subjected to a roadside breath test and returned a positive result.

He was arrested and taken to Goulburn Police Station, where he underwent a secondary breath analysis and returned an alleged reading of 0.207.

The man’s licence was suspended, and he was charged with drive with high range PCA, and class A motor vehicle exceed speed (more than 30km/h).

The Maroubra man was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Goulburn Local Court on Wednesday 16 February 2022.
