Driver of stolen car arrested – North Brighton, South Australia

A man has been arrested following a pursuit in the inner southern suburbs overnight.

Just after midnight on Friday 13 March, patrols spotted a stolen Commodore sedan on Anzac Highway at Plymptom and tried to pull the driver over. He refused and was pursued through several back streets before turning onto Marion Road where patrols terminated the pursuit due to safety reasons.

PolAir then took over the pursuit from the air and followed the car along Marion Road and then onto Oaklands Road where it was spiked. The driver abandoned the car a short distance away in Margaret Avenue at North Brighton where it caught alight. He ran off but was located in the rear yard of a nearby house a short time later. A fire which started on the back seat of the car which was extinguished by patrols.

A 26-year-old Plympton man has been charged with illegal use, dangerous driving to escape police and drive unlicenced. He has been refused bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court later today.
