Every road user is responsible for their own actions, unfortunately a number of drivers have been failing in that responsibility this weekend.
Members from Port Phillip and Road Policing Drug and Alcohol Section conducted Operation Decoy in St Kilda as part of Operation Regal.
Drug and alcohol sites were set up at Fitzroy Street at the corner of Princes and Lakeside Boulevard and at Dandenong Road and Chapel Street.
Police tested 1747 people with seven drivers caught for drink driving and three for drug driving.
Four cars were impounded including that of a 23-year-old man from Germany.
He was driving an unroadworthy car without a licence and failed a roadside drug test.
A 32-year-old man from Malvern returned and alleged reading of .149 and a 36-year-old woman from Bentleigh East returned and alleged reading of .110.
Both had their cars impounded and licences suspended.
In Boronia uniform members observed a motorcycle travelling at a fast rate of speed along Bayswater Road about 5.30pm.
The bike was intercepted and the rider, a 35-year-old man from Cranbourne East, was breath tested.
He returned an evidentiary reading of .118 , had his licence suspended for 11 months and had his motorcycle impounded for a month.
In Essendon Fields Fawkner Highway Patrol members intercepted a speeding vehicle on the Tullamarine Freeway.
The 29-year-old man from Broadmeadows had his girlfriend’s car impounded and has incurred impound costs of $2000.
He is expected to be summonsed for numerous traffic offences including drive whilst suspended.
Acting Senior Sergeant Dean Pickering was less than impressed with the man.
“This is an individual that clearly doesn’t care. He has chosen to ignore his suspension and continues to drive” he said.
“We continue to be out in numbers across the long weekend for Operation Regal, we will gladly remove anyone from the road who chooses to make these kind of decisions.”
The state-wide operation commenced on Friday 7 June and will focus on impaired driving, increased traffic on rural roads, towing trailers and caravans, and trail bike riding in state forests and parks.
Enforcement activities will vary across the state with police focusing on traffic corridors that link metropolitan areas to popular holiday destinations including the high country (ski fields), Grampians and Lakes regions.
Operation Regal will run for four days from 12.01am Friday 7 June to 11.59pm Monday 10 June 2019.
