The Flinders Community Hub and Flinders Park Public Toilet Amenity projects are reaching an exciting stage in the design process.

In 2020 we began working on the detailed design for the Flinders Community Hub. During this time, we worked closely with the community and current and future user groups to ensure the design would meet their needs.

We are excited to be hosting an in person drop-in session to view the latest detailed designs and ask us any questions you may have.

You’ll also be able to view the designs for the Flinders Park Public Toilet

Amenity project.

There will be an opportunity to speak to the architects and project team.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Flinders Community Hub

In September 2020, the Shire received $2.25 million towards the Flinders Civic Hall redevelopment through the State Government’s expanded Growing Suburbs Fund. In 2019/20, Council allocated $200,000 to progress the design phase and will match the $2.25 million funding providing a total budget of $4.5M for this exciting development.

The current Flinders Civic Hall (located at Cook Street, Flinders) was first opened in 1966 and is in poor condition and in need of significant improvement.

After extensive consultation with key stakeholders and the community in 2018/19, Council resolved to provide the Flinders community with a new and improved building to meet the current and future needs of its users.

The facility will be home to a wide variety of community groups and services including: Flinders Art Show, Flinders Arts Group, Flinders Community Association, Flinders Lions, Flinders Probus and Flinders RSL. Classes for older adult exercise, pilates, Yoga classes and other activities.

Some redesign features to be included in the new Flinders Community Hub are:

  • Multipurpose hall with elevated stage and designated storage area and unisex change room facilities.
  • Large terrace providing better connections to the outdoor precinct area.
  • Two multipurpose rooms for a range of community programs and activities.
  • Improved all accessibility inclusions including a dual access Changing Places amenity (the first dual-access amenity on the Peninsula), all access ramps at the entrance, inside the facility and throughout the precinct and carparking.

It is anticipated minor upgrades to the services and utilities will occur in the upcoming months, with the main demolition and construction expected to commence in late October 2021.

Flinders Park Public Toilet Amenity

As part of our commitment to providing safe and accessible public toilet amenities for the community and tourists, we are excited to be working on the

Flinders Park Public Toilet amenity.

The proposed amenity includes:

  • Unisex accessible/family change toilet.
  • Unisex ambulant toilet.

The proposed site for the public toilet amenity is near the playspace which it

will service along the existing gravel path to the Norman Street Carpark.

To help support the new amenity and users of the reserve, here are some other upgrades taking place:

  • Bicycle racks.
  • Drinking fountain.
  • Footpath connecting the play space to the public toilet amenity and carpark.
  • Two accessible carpark line markings along the Norman Street (existing carparking area).
  • All access picnic table.
