Police are preparing a report for the Coroner after a man died at Eurelia in the Southern Flinders Ranges this morning.
At 9.30am Sunday 1 March, police and emergency services were called to R M Williams Way, about 30 km north of Orroroo following reports that a motorcyclist had been washed away when attempting to cross a flooded creek.
Resources from the State Emergency Service, Country Fire Service and local patrols attended the scene.
Following a search, the rider, a 47-year-old man was sadly found deceased.
There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
Police wish to remind the community to stay safe around floodwater.
- Stay safe by never driving, riding or walking through floodwater
- If you come across water over the road – turn around. Water on the road can hide deep potholes and damage to roads. Stay safe by never driving through floodwater.
- Floodwater is dirty and can contain dirt, mud, branches, rocks, chemicals, snakes, spiders, dead animals, and more. Protect yourself by never entering floodwater.
- Keep children safe by not letting them play in or near floodwater
- Don’t let children play in floodwater. Floodwater can be deeper and flow faster than it looks. It’s not worth the risk.
- Stay safe by never camping or parking vehicles in or near creek beds
- Some places are especially dangerous, like a dry creek bed that can flood in minutes-even if the rain/flood is further upstream. Never camp or park vehicles in these places.
- Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
